GPS Vs Microsoft Streets and Maps

Mon, 10/15/2007 - 9:07pm

As a Double Agent I've had to opportunity to use both. I started off using Streets and Maps 2007, and now I'm using a Garmin. Both have their pros and cons. (as do most things) For one with Streets and Maps I'm able to route out my entire day, with the Garmin I'm not, I have to put in a each stop that I'm going to. Well I guess that I could save an address into the Garmin, but it's really not a route planner. With Streets and Maps if the speakers on the laptop are not that loud it's hard to hear turn by turn directions. The Garmin comes with a built in speaker which can usually get pretty loud. If I wasn't making as many stops as I do, I would have stayed with Streets and Maps but because I'm constantly having to shut down the laptop and back on once I'm done at a customers house, I found it more of a nuisance. I do how ever miss being able to "quickly" view the streets in the area that my call is in, especally when the address is not on the map yet.

 What are your thoughts?

The iphone Killer

Mon, 10/15/2007 - 2:13pm

Have anyone seen the new Verizon phones from LG? Do a search for the Verizon Voyager. The phone's software looks similar to the iphone software. Basically it's an updated version of the envy with touch screen...

Michael Clayton

Mon, 10/15/2007 - 10:36am
Has anyone seen it yet. I saw it last night and I have to say I was disappointed. The movie was great up until the end. I won't give anything away but it was great with many plot twists all the way till the end but then I felt let down. Any one else seen it and have thoughts.

Introductory goodness... or, Who is this Malicat person anyway?

Sun, 10/14/2007 - 6:31pm

Deep dark confessions are the name of the blog game, or so I'm told.  So I suppose this is how I should begin.  I have two, actually, and the first of which is the fact that I'm a girl.  Yes, I shall pause a moment to allow you to finish your gasps of disbelief.  It's true, I am most definitely of the female persuasion.  This is a confession because I'm blogging as a Best Buy employee.  Yes, it's really really true, we do, in fact, hire girls.  And not only am I a girl, but I'm also a technophile.  And this is where it gets really confusing.

I'm on the tail end of Gen X, and no, you're not getting any additional age information out of me, even if you threaten to hold kittens hostage.  As a Gen X girl, I was raised with the Atari and Nintendo video games.  And here is my crime.  I'm good at them, you see.  Girls who play games are cool, naturally.  But we're only cool as long as the guys are better than we are.  So this is my confession.  I'm a supernerd into a lot of different games, computer games as well as console games, and I am probably a better player than most of you guys!

whew, that felt good to get off my chest.  So, back the blog bit, as it turns out, I actually intensely dislike blogs.  Ok ok, I know how that sounds, bear with me a few.  First, to prove my supernerd powers, I shall let you all in on a secret.  My technology matches.  See!  I'm a girl and a nerd!  I own a crimson bluetooth headset to match my crimson Krazr phone.  (Like a razr, and still made by Motorola, but much nicer).  I also own a crimson and black Nintendo DS, as well as the Crimson Nikon CoolPix S200 camera.  Yes, nerdy and a girl!  So back to blogging... here's the problem with it.  I'm old enough to remember typewriters and handwritten letters.  I'm also old enough to remember that when you wanted to find out how someone was doing, you asked them.

No, no, hear me out on this one.  You see, I love the idea of corporate blogs.  I also love the idea of blogs done by famous or interesting people.  Mainly, I like the idea of blogs written by people I don't know.  I like finding out about how people I have never met view things.  I don't like reading blogs the people I know write to find out how their lives are.  You see, that's becoming a standard reaction now.  It's easier to read someone's blog than to get on the phone or even write an email.  That actually bothers me.  The internet was something new and fuzzy for me waaay back in the day.  It was a way that I could keep in contact with friends who have moved.  Everything about the internet screamed out new and better ways to interact back then.  But now, we're finding more and more ways to shun interaction.  New and improved ways to remove humans from the equation, is really what it boils down to.  Now you don't even need to think of different answers to the question, 'how are you doing?' you simply need to come up with one generic answer and throw it out on the internet.

And here endeth the lesson.  I'm not much for preaching, it's really not my style.  I've got a stack of different internet names I use randomly, but Malicat has always been my 'home' name.  So, I'll stay with Malicat for now.  It's nice to meet you.
